Letter from the President

Hello, and Welcome to Sigma Kappa!

Our chapter is one of the amazing 16 Panhellenic sororities at the University of Maryland. When I was going through recruitment, Sigma Kappa’s four values of friendship, loyalty, service and personal growth resonated with me. In my time in the chapter, I’ve seen our members go above and beyond to care for each other. They are there for each other through thick and thin. It’s been an honor to lead such amazing members through their collegiate experience.

During their time as Sigma Kappas, our members enjoy personal, professional, academic and social development. We hold a variety of events including service activities, mentorship programs, chapter bonding and educational programming. Sigma Kappa focuses on supporting our members in every part of their lives and having them leave college as the best versions of themselves.

Our national motto is “one heart, one way” and I believe our members truly live out this message. The beauty of the Sigma Kappa community is that our members support each other in everything they do- Sigma Kappas make the best LinkedIn connections, game day partners, classmates, or shoulder to cry on.

Before going through recruitment, I never saw myself in Greek life. I didn’t know how it worked, and I didn’t have any connection to it, but I sought to find a tight-knit group of supportive women. The moment I stepped foot into the Sigma Kappa house, where I’ve now lived in for three years, I felt at home with the members. I felt like I could be myself, and comfortable and cared for. Since then, I’ve made memories that will last a lifetime, made bonds that have defined my collegiate years, and been able to grow leaps and bounds as a leader.

I love being president because I get to represent the truly amazing group of people in this chapter; they are passionate, ambitious, and kind and I have no doubt they will go on to change the world after their years at the University of Maryland.
